Sounding Retreat (2008) by Linda Sormin

Linda was the teacher that got me interested in ceramics when I attended Emily Carr a couple of years ago. Her website just went live and you should go check it out.

Captain Obvious patrols here

I really have no idea how to describe Sankaku Complex. For me it’s like a tiny window into Japanese weirdness/wonderfulness. I have no trouble understanding those specific quirks because I grew up in Taiwan*, but I am sure it’s (still) quite weird for a lot of people.  See here, dozens of dozens anime faces that when view all at the same time, are quite mesmerizing.  Follow the link and give it a try.

*Japanese shit is big in Taiwan, for those who don’t know.

Gay, Afro, and Necro

As much as I like the plastic toys (and it’s quite a bit) I am not really sure how it is possible that they can use Star Wars character design here.  I know for parody and satire purposes it’s alright to reappropriate copyrighted material, but I didn’t how you can make money from it. OR can I? I guess I don’t know enough of the copyright/fair use laws.

Oh they are limited edition products, maybe that’s the trick. Go get it while supply lasts.

Sculpture that’s truly moving

July 19th, 2008 | sculpture

TED never ceases to amaze me. I am so glad it decided to open it’s archive to public even though some talks are posted long after it was filmed. I guess they do need to keep the exclusivity to conference goers somehow.  The above video was filmed in 2004 and was just posted on TED.com.

Where is Publix?

July 18th, 2008 | sculpture

Publix (2008) by Frances Trombly, embroidery on fabric

I stumbleuponed this work and like it quite a bit. I like how much the work is put in to present such a mundane and everyday object.
